Captain’s January Update

Hello members,

It’s your Captain here, reporting for duty (and a little banter) as we stride into the new year! Firstly, I want to thank everyone who’s braved the winter chill to join me out on the course. Whether you’ve hit fairways or found every bunker (like me last weekend), your commitment to golf – and a post-round pint – is admirable.

A big shoutout to our Winter League warriors. Team Smithers pulled off a stunning win last Sunday, proving once again that age and wisdom (or sheer luck) trump youthful optimism. If you’re not involved yet, there’s still time to dust off your thermals and join the fun – it’s all about participation (and bragging rights).

Looking ahead, we’ve got some exciting events on the horizon in February:

• The February Foursomes on the 10th (pair wisely, no arguments on the 6th green, please).
• Captain’s Drive-In on the 17th – yes, it’s my turn to embarrass myself in front of you all. Let’s just say I’m hoping for less slice, more applause.

Lastly, a heartfelt thank you to the greens team. Despite the frost, they’ve worked wonders to keep the course playable and looking fantastic. Just a reminder: please repair your pitch marks. If I can do it after three-putting, so can you!

Here’s to a brilliant year ahead filled with good golf, great laughs, and plenty of birdies (and not just the ones nesting in the rough).
