February Course Report

February Greenkeepers Course Report

Introduction February has brought a mix of weather conditions, with cold temperatures, high winds, and persistent rainfall impacting the course. Despite the challenges, our team has been working hard to maintain and improve playing conditions ahead of the spring season.

Course Conditions The wet weather has led to softer ground conditions, making some areas more susceptible to wear and tear. Temporary measures, such as roping off high-traffic areas and rotating tee positions, have been implemented to protect the turf. Drainage channels have been checked and cleared to ensure surface water is moving efficiently off the course.

Greens Greens maintenance has continued with regular aeration to improve surface drainage and root health. Disease pressure remains a concern due to prolonged damp conditions, so fungicide applications have been carefully managed to protect the turf. Regular brushing and rolling have helped maintain smooth putting surfaces.

Fairways & Tees With the high levels of rainfall, fairways have remained softer than usual, and some areas have been prone to divots and mud accumulation. To combat this, we have increased sand topdressing where necessary. Tees are also showing signs of wear, particularly on par-3s, so divot-filling and rotation of tee markers are being closely monitored.

Bunkers Bunkers have required additional attention due to washouts from heavy rain. We are replenishing sand where necessary and repairing edges to maintain playability. Further drainage work will be planned for the drier months to improve long-term bunker conditions.

Tree & Woodland Management Winter tree work is ongoing, with the removal of dead or damaged trees to enhance safety and course aesthetics. Selective pruning has been carried out to improve airflow and sunlight penetration, particularly around greens and tees.

Looking Ahead As we move towards spring, our focus will shift to early-season preparation, including fertilisation programs to encourage healthy growth, continued aeration work, and bunker refurbishment. We appreciate golfers’ patience during these maintenance efforts, which are essential for ensuring optimal playing conditions throughout the year.

Conclusion Despite the challenging weather, the course is holding up well, and we are confident that the groundwork being laid now will result in excellent conditions as we move into the prime golfing months. Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to welcoming everyone to a well-prepared course in the coming weeks.
