Latest Course Update
January 28, 2025
Hello members,
January has been a busy month for the greenkeeping team as we work hard to keep the course in top shape during the winter season. Despite the frosty mornings and heavy rain we’ve had lately, it’s great to see so many of you out on the fairways. Here’s a quick update on what we’ve been up to and what’s coming next.
Course Conditions
The recent rain has made some areas of the course quite soft underfoot, so we’ve been focusing on improving drainage around key spots, particularly on the 7th and 12th fairways. Please remember to use the winter mats provided to help protect the turf while we manage wear and tear. We’ve also added some additional roped-off areas to allow the grass to recover – your cooperation in sticking to these paths is greatly appreciated.
Greens Maintenance
You might have noticed the greens looking a little different over the last week. We’ve applied a light topdressing and a slow-release winter fertilizer to help them stay healthy through these colder months. Frost can be a challenge, but we’re monitoring conditions closely each morning to avoid unnecessary damage.
Tree Management
As part of our winter program, we’ve been thinning some of the trees along the 4th and 9th holes. This helps improve air circulation and light levels, which will benefit the turf in those areas as we head into spring. Plus, it makes those tee shots a bit less daunting!
Looking Ahead
February will bring the start of some exciting projects, including a full bunker renovation on the 15th hole. We’re aiming to improve drainage and ensure they’re fair (but still challenging!). We’re also trialing some new cold-weather grass seed mixes to help strengthen high-traffic areas like the walkways around greens.
A Quick Reminder
We’re still seeing quite a few un-repaired pitch marks on greens – if everyone could take a moment to repair their mark (and maybe one more), it would make a huge difference to playability and recovery.
As always, we’re here to answer any questions or hear your feedback about the course. Feel free to stop by for a chat – we don’t bite (unless you criticize our stripes!).
Thanks for your continued support, and here’s to another great year of golf.
See you on the course,
Joe Smith
