November Course Report

As we move into the heart of autumn, November has brought a noticeable shift in course conditions across the club. The combination of shorter daylight hours, falling temperatures, and persistent rainfall has presented the usual challenges, but the greens team has been working hard to keep the course in excellent shape for the time of year.

Course Conditions

Continuous wet weather has softened fairways and rough areas, meaning ground conditions are more vulnerable to wear. Please continue to follow all traffic guidance, rope lines, and signage to help protect high-traffic areas, particularly around greens and approaches.
Greens remain healthy and receptive. Cooler temperatures and reduced growth have slowed recovery times, but regular light aeration and topdressing have helped maintain smooth surfaces.

Winter Preparation

The team has now fully transitioned into the winter maintenance programme. Key tasks this month have included:

  • Clearing leaves and debris across fairways, tees, and pathways.

  • Slitting and aeration to improve drainage and keep playing surfaces firm.

  • Bunker edging and topping up sand where necessary.

  • Tree management, including crown lifting and removal of deadwood to improve airflow and safety.

Winter mats are now in place on selected tees to preserve grass surfaces for the spring. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation when using these areas.

Course Protection

With softer turf and higher moisture levels, pitch marks and divots become more noticeable. Members are kindly reminded to:

  • Repair all pitch marks (and one extra if possible).

  • Replace or fill divots with sand/seed mix.

  • Keep all trolleys and buggies away from green surrounds.

Buggy restrictions will be reviewed daily based on ground conditions.

Looking Ahead

Weather permitting, the team will begin small-scale winter projects in December, including pathway repairs, drainage improvements, and continued tidy-up work around tees and woodland areas. These changes will help improve playability and presentation when we move into the new season.
